Chinese Geese

Chinese goose (center) and two ganders.

We recently added a trio of white Chinese Geese to the farm and are enjoying them immensely. We chose this heritage breed not only for its aesthetic value (they’re also called “Swan Geese”, for obvious reasons), but for the following attributes: they’re reputed to be the best-laying breed, they’re excellent foragers (earning them the moniker “Weeder Geese”), and they’re known – like other geese to be vigilant guardians, sounding the alarm if predators or strangers approach.

We’ve found our trio to be smart, curious, and elegant birds. We also have a broody duck incubating five Chinese goose eggs and are hoping to add goslings to the group soon. We’d like to offer hatching eggs and goslings in the future.
